Strengthening Physiotherapy Training in Kenya: A Milestone Achievement

The Physiotherapy Council of Kenya (PCK), in collaboration with The Jackson Clinics Foundation, has successfully completed yet another Clinical Physiotherapy Instructors Course, marking a significant step in enhancing physiotherapy education in Kenya.

This rigorous training program, held at the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council (KMPDC), brought together 58 participants, including Trainers of Trainers (ToTs), drawn from various institutions across the country.

The primary objective was to equip instructors with essential skills to bridge gaps in the current physiotherapy curriculum, ensuring that future physiotherapists receive high-quality training aligned with global standards.

Why was this Training Important?

Physiotherapy plays a crucial role in healthcare, aiding in rehabilitation and improving the quality of life for many. However, the effectiveness of physiotherapy depends on the competence of practitioners, which is directly influenced by the quality of training they receive. This course focused on:

  • Enhancing teaching methodologies for physiotherapy instructors
  • Bridging curriculum gaps to meet international standards
  • Strengthening hands-on clinical training
  • Empowering Trainers of Trainers to mentor future educators

By investing in the continuous professional development of instructors, we are not only improving the quality of education but also ensuring that Kenyan physiotherapists remain competitive on a global scale.

A Collaborative Effort

The success of this program would not have been possible without the unwavering support of our esteemed partners, Tufts University and Shenandoah University. Their expertise and commitment to advancing physiotherapy education have played a vital role in shaping this initiative.

Looking Ahead

With 58 instructors now trained, we are confident that the ripple effect of this program will be felt across Kenya’s physiotherapy landscape. Moving forward, PCK remains committed to strengthening physiotherapy training and upholding the highest standards of professional practice.
