Background Information

We are a regulatory body established under an Act of Parliament (Physiotherapists Act No 20 2014) whose main function is to make provision for training and licensing of physiotherapists and to regulate their practice.

The principal function is to protect health and safety of the public by ensuring ethical and competent physiotherapists offer services to the public.

The Council has a responsibility to ensure practitioners, physiotherapy clinics/facilities/firms comply with the set rules and standards.

Mandate

  • Keep registers of all registered and licensed physiotherapists, physiotherapy clinics/facilities/firms and accredited/approved training programs
  • Manage, administer and set policies and guidelines relating to physiotherapy practice in Kenya
  • Receive and handle complaints relating to physiotherapy practitioners and clinics/facilities/firms
  • Set and enforce standards for different levels of physiotherapy training and practice
  • Establish, accredit and approve programmes for Continuing Professional Development
  • Advice the ministry on matters relating to physiotherapy training and practice
